Psalm 91 begins with a conditional statement about dwelling in the secret place of the Most High. It ends with an explanation of the benefits of a personal relationship with him. When God is for you, who can do you any harm?
Because he loves me (v 13-14)
Psalm 91:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
Victory over your aggressive and powerful enemies is assured in verse 13. This produces unwavering courage and fortitude against every foe. God stands with you to defend you and assist you in your battle.
Your personal relationship with God Almighty is directly mediated by the Personal Covenant.
I will answer him (v 15)
Psalm 91:15 New International Version (NIV)
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
Call on the name of the Lord and he will answer you. Whenever you are in trouble, this is your sure and guaranteed right and privilege. You will arise victorious and be honored.
And show him my salvation (v 16)
Psalm 91:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
God shows his salvation directly to you. Salvation means that you will live forever. Salvation means you will enjoy all the benefits of his love for you. Salvation means you will be rescued from danger and death.
