I am a regent trainee Part 2

What shall we do while Jesus tarries? There is a purpose that fulfillment of prophecy in the book of Revelation remains in the future.

I am a regent trainee Part 1

Delayed second coming

At first people thought Jesus would soon come and they simply waited and did nothing. Over the centuries there have been splinter groups who believed the millennial kingdom was approaching and they holed themselves up and waited.

Now after two thousand years, there is the general belief that Christ will come at any minute, but that Christians must still be about their Father’s work. This brings to mind the parable of the Ten Virgins. Now interpret ‘foolish virgins’ as Christians who are not in it for the long haul.

Matthew 25:1-13 New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Advancing the kingdom (Postmillennialism)

The business of every Christian is to advance the kingdom of God. This can mean anything from personal devotions, bible reading, prayer, to good works and intercessory prayer. Since the kingdom is within you, anything you do to mature in your faith is advancing the kingdom. But what about violence? Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force.

Matthew 11:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Be careful to remember that spiritual warfare is different than regular worldly violence. The enemy is Satan and the weapons are spiritual weapons.

Authority of Christians

Our authority as believers in Jesus Christ stems from the great commission. We have spiritual power associated with this authority due to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Jesus has said we are kings and priests.

Revelation 5:9-10 New International Version (NIV)
9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

John 10:34 New International Version (NIV)

34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’?

Psalm 82:6 New International Version (NIV)
6 “I said, ‘You are “gods”;
you are all sons of the Most High.’

Spiritual warfare

When you come to understand your authority and power as a believer, you are ready to begin to advance the kingdom of heaven (by force as indicated in Matthew 11:12) through intercessory prayer according to your faith. Think big and do greater things than Jesus did.

John 14:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

For example, don’t just pray for one person to be healed, pray for the entire hospital to be cleared out as miracles of healing abound throughout. Don’t just pray for peace in your home, pray for peace in every family in the world. Pray for the reduction or elimination of all militarism worldwide. You are a regent trainee and you can fulfill the will of God here on earth by advancing the Kingdom where you live.
